Neoclassical

Neoclassicism took shape in the mid-eighteenth century, looking back to Greek and Roman antiquity: straight lines, symmetry, tapering fluted legs and restrained ornament such as palmettes, garlands and Greek key borders. In Italy it shaped furniture throughout the nineteenth century, often in walnut, mahogany or giltwood.

In a used piece we look at the structure first: sound joints, flat tops, carving and gilding without heavy infills. Small losses and the patina of age are described on each object's page, together with any restoration carried out.
